Which do you prefer? Biographies written about someone? Or Autobiographies written by the actual person (and/or ghost-writer)?
I love a big, juicy biography about a person. Here are a few of my favorites:

Virginia Woolf

The Diana Chronicles

The Haunting of Sylvia Plath
I’m always excited to delve into a new biography because the writer’s treatment of the person fascinates me as much as the original person. For example, I think learned as much about Tina Brown as I did about Princess Di when I read her version of Diana’s life. How about you? Which do you prefer?

Thanks

Oh see now I would totally read the one about Plath!
Me too! Or Virginia Woolf. I guess I would read either as long as it was about someone I found really intriguing – but that’s not many people!
You just reminded me to put the Plath one on my TBR list!
Thank you!
I think I like the autobiography better. Not all of them are totally honest with you, but when they are, you definitely get more of their inner thoughts. I loved Clapton!
I enjoy both, but I prefer Autobiographies….
Sylvia Plath and Virgina Woolf’s looks very interesting!
I do really like biographies. And I like your point about the biographer revealing himself or herself through the subject as well. I also think biographies are interesting because they can change over time, and with biographers–as they have with Plath, especially. I also like to read letters and journals–they round everything out nicely.
Sylvia Plath’s biography looks very good!
I love biographies. Everyone raves about Sylvia Plath. I’m definitely going to have to check her out!
I love both! I still want to read Melissa Gilbert’s autobio, and I want to get a biography of Lincoln, but there are too many to choose from.
